Chris van Rooyen lives in Johannesburg and travels all over Southern Africa to capture images of birds and wildlife, his favourite photographic subjects.
His images have been published in a wide range of magazines, books and calendars and he has received awards on several occasions, including a Highly Commended award in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards in 2008, and a second place in the category Behaviour: All other Animals in 2009 in the same competition.
When not on safari with his camera, Chris works as an ornithological consultant which he feels helps him gain a unique understanding of his subject matter.
He is also an accomplished bird artist with a special liking for raptors - he has contributed all the raptor plates in the Roberts Birds of Southern Africa 7th edition.
