About

Rovos Rail started operating in 1989 and is now internationally renowned for five-star luxury experience it offers. A total of 72 passengers can be accommodated in the 36 suites available per trip. The trains are at different stages of the trip hauled by steam, diesel or electric locomotives. Train Journeys are offered on one of two classic 20-coach, 72 berth trains.

Cuisine and Services

A team of chefs are responsible for menu planning to ensure that guests every need is catered for. The accent is placed on fresh local ingredients and traditional dishes such as game. A full breakfast is served every morning, followed by lunch and dinner offering a starter and a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian dishes and a tempting dessert – all accompanied by a selection of South African wines.

Coaches

All suites are air-conditioned and offer convenience and comfort in a choice between twin and double beds. The suites are some of the most spacious train suites offered in the world and are an epitome of luxury with the wood panelling and period Edwardian features. Each suite is equipped with a writing surface, personal safe and bar fridge. The en-suite bathrooms have hot showers, hair dryers and shaver plugs. 24-hour room service is available to the suites.

•  The Royal Suites – Each Royal Suite takes up half a carriage and offer spacious and elegant accommodation in a space of 16 sq metres.  Each suite has a private lounge area and full bathroom which includes a Victoria bath and separate shower.
•  The Deluxe Suites – Each suite measures 11 sq metres and can accommodate two passengers in either twin or double beds. The suites have a lounge area and en-suite bathroom with shower.
•  The Pullman Suites – These Suites measure 7 sq metres with a bathroom identical to the Deluxe Suites. The bedrooms are slightly smaller offering one up and one down bunk for twin requirements or a double bed for couples. The beds can be converted into a comfortable couch during the day.
